Mother's Day

This Mother's Day, I was blessed enough to have my mom come for a visit. Hudson was very excited to have his Oma come visit, as was Sterling.
Sterling was beginning to smile more (I feel like he started later than Hudson, but he is much more smiley now on comparison!) which made the visit fun!

I feel so blessed to have such good happy healthy boys!

brothers

So this spring, Hudson started to show more interest in Sterling as Sterling became more aware and reactive. This is one of the first times that the boys were playing together...

With spring also came warmer weather which means we got to playoff at the park! Also, our dogwood tree in the front yard actually bloomed this year! The fertilizer worked (hopefully the current scaffolding won't kill it now!)

ch-ch-changes

I went back to work in April and ended up changing jobs. I now work in-house at a long time client. Six months later, I am still so happy with the change. I had been with my previous job ten years (is that unheard of these days?), which made it a difficult decision; however, it was the right one for me and my boys. And we are all much happier for it!

Sterling also found his tongue in April, which he still uses often as the poor kid just has one tooth! And my new work colleagues are now like family. I even got to bring the kids to work a week ago Friday and the kids went home laden with jelly beans! Okay. Maybe just one kid;). The little one was determined to stand and walk around, even if he was under a desk!

happy birthday, daddy!

In March we celebrated Dave's birthday. In truth, we were pretty tired by then - the lack of sleep was wearing thin. Sterling was 9 weeks old and we were still 7-8 weeks away from sleeping through the night.
Hudson helped make and decorate Dave's cake this year. Hudson was very concerned about where to put the raspberries. The cake was Dave's favorite, lemon cake with raspberry filling and buttercream icing (the same as our wedding cake).

Hudson even helped his daddy open his presents...
And the best part, eating the cake!
The boys also got to hang out and fool around...

what I didn't expect

...from my maternity leave. There are a lot of things that happened during that time that were unexpected. Probably the most surprising is that not only did I get to know our new little Sterling, I got to spend a lot of one on one time with Hudson.
We had the luxury of a lot of "Mommy dates"; going to the playground, breakfast at the bagel shop, even grocery shopping just with Hudson.

One of the best things we did during the pregnancy was to save enough to keep Violet on during my maternity leave. This really allowed me time to reconnect with Hudson on a daily basis during a really difficult transition time for our family. I had the chance to spend a lot of time with him which is something he really values.
And Sterling got a lot of snuggle time too!

30 day update

So I KNOW I have been VERY remiss about updating this blog this year. I'm kicking myself as I have a ton of fun things to share of 2013 (I'm still in denial that it is October), but I just haven't taken the time to get my act together and actually post. I actually love the blog not only to share with you, but also as a family history. the Brooklyn Baby blog has been a great reference for Sterling - When did Hudson start crawling? When was teething really bad?

Hence the plan of the '30 day update.' I am doing a blog 'bootcamp' for 30 days. Some days may have long posts, some may be short. They will be in chronological order for the year, but just dating back to moments I want to remember (and share with you), but wasn't able to capture at that time.

You'll also noted that I've tried to add an Instagram feed at the side. Hopefully this will be a nice update of more of our day to day comings and goings.

So thank you. Thank you for your patience, and I hope you enjoy....our 30 day update!

And a little eye candy for what is currently happening to the outside of our 4th floor walk-up...new resurfaced brownstone!

first day

Long overdue post. I will do some recaps of summer- I can't believe it is already the second week of September!

Yesterday Hudson had his first day of preschool. We ended up going with a private school that was affordable and 'montesorri-esque' with out the high price tag. As a bonus, as it is an Orthodox  Jewish school, Hudson, and we, will be learning about all the high holidays, the Hebrew alphabet and other Jewish customs. He is the oldest one in his class, but I think he will learn to be more patient with younger kids. Below he is playing with his new friend Max.

In other news, Sterling is crawling up a storm! He loves following his big brother around!
